Beginning

Well, here I am.
Hello everyone, I'm Nathan Kight... and I just started a blog.
Not very original, I suppose, but it will suffice. After all, is there supposed to be a specific way to start a blog? Oh well.
Alright, so as the title suggests, I do live in Florida. Yes, I live on the beach. Yes, it is awesome. But what a lotta people think, is that it never gets cold in Florida.
Oh, you naive people.
Destin is what I call a bi polar area. It is totally random in all its weather choices! For example, today was balmy; warm, good winds, semi overcast sky... Fantastic!
Yesterday... Cutting winds with a freezing temperature at 30ish degrees that mercifully edged its way up the temperature ladder to 60 degrees. Now, I know you northern people probably deal with that a ton. But imagine that without having a handy dandy winter coat! Or for that matter, long pants or long shirts! And don't even get me started on being a beast and just enduring it! Believe me, after having sicknesses for every winter for all seven years I've been here, I'm pretty much getting angry at winter at this point.
But you guys aren't here for me to talk about the cold.
You guys are here to talk about a Destin kid's wonderful life on the beach, constant tan, excellent activity... Well, I have to say that it is one of the most fantastic places on Earth. Besides my church, my house, wherever my friends and family are... it just is. Completely white sand that ironically looks like snow, clear water that's frigid cold this time of year, and of course, a Crab Trap restaurant right there. While no, I do not really go to the restaurant, there's a conveniently located bathroom right there.
Now, one of the things I mostly wanted to speak about are the wildlife.
I recently spoke to a Virginian friend of mine, and she said that she had never been stung by a jellyfish. Not only did that shock and bewilder me, it caused me to hit myself in the face. It's like saying you haven't seen a bee! It was alarming, and it made me wonder this; How many more northerners/none beach goers have never experienced this sensation?
So I will explain to you exactly what jellyfish stinging is.
Imagine this; You and your family and/or friends are having a fantastic day at the beach. You've gotten your suntan lotion all in, you're in the water splashing each other, throwing a frisbee... the works.
Suddenly, you feel a slight stinging sensation.
Now, it may be on your arm, maybe on your lower leg, nothing to really draw your attention.
Then you feel another, and this one is one of those accursed chafing areas. inside upper arm, upper leg, something to really aggravate you. But most of the time it doesn't affect you until after you've gotten a few dozen of them.
So you notice that you're kinda uncomfortable, and you get out of the water.
You look at your stinging areas, and your eyes widen.
You see red stripes all on your legs and arms, not only marring that tan, but also stinging really hard. At this point, your beach day is over. You try various ways to get rid of those unsightly stings, but most don't work until after you get home and take a nice shower.
Now you know better. Once you start feeling those stings, you can either get out, move to another location, or stay put and get stung. Of course, in Destin, you'll probably see the jellies before they get to you. Unless, you know, the July grass comes in and seaweed clouds form everywhere.
There are many ways to treat jellyfish stings. One way I've noticed? Don't pay em too much attention, unless its really bad. Sea water will heal it much faster than other convenient ways.
Well, this is day one... and yes I did get stung yesterday...
Tomorrow I'll speak about Destin's main attractions.. and what goes on at them.
Seeya tomorrow.
